Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving is an American holiday that has been celebrated since 1863. The name of the holiday comes from the religious tradition of giving thanks to God.

On Thanksgiving Day, Americans meet with their families and this is considered a very special thing. For this reason, on Thanksgiving weekend there are many people travelling around the United States.

The feast (meal) is still the most important part of Thanksgiving. Before eating, every member of the family takes turns telling everyone what he’s thankful for from the past year. The turkey is the most special part of the meal. Other dishes that are eaten on Thanksgiving Day include mashed potatoes, cramberry sauce, green beans, and corn. Dessert is an important part of the meal too! Most families have pumpkin pie.

After eating, they often take a walk, play football outside and watch the football game and the New York City parade on TV. Finally they all take a family picture.
