Rivers & Relief
Mountain: Raised area of land with a peak at the top. A row of mountains is called a mountain range. Examples: Pirineus & Cantabrian Mountain Range.
Desert: Very dry area of land. Examples: Sahara, Kalahari, Atacama, Tabernas, Monegros.
Plateau: Raised area of land with a flat surface on top. Example: Meseta Central.
Plains: Wide, flat lands with rich soil that is good for agriculture or farming. Example: Ebro River Basin.
River: Water flowing from higher areas. Examples: Ebro & Duero.
Coast: Where land meets the oceans, some are rocky, some are sandy with beaches. Examples: Mediterranean Coast & Cantabrian Coast.
Lake: Calm, large area of fresh water. Example: Sanabria, Banyoles.
Island: Area of land surrounded by water on all sides. Examples: Canary Islands.
Ocean: Large body of salt water that makes up most of the earth’s surface. Examples: Pacific & Atlantic Oceans.
Peninsula: Area of land surrounded on three sides by water. Examples: Iberian.
Valley: It is a lower part in the land, between two higher parts which might be hills or mountains.
